Engaging in activities that inspire subjective notions of meaning and purpose is the key to elevating your motivation to live fully and well. Every human being has the desire to live a life full of everything that is subjectively good. Today as I was listening to Lex Fridman’s podcast with Ben Shapiro, the words of this sentence caught my attention, “you need to find meaning and purpose in forming connections that actually matter in a belief system that actually promotes general prosperity and promotes helping other people”.

So, we need to start forming connections because that’s where we’ll discover our meaning and purpose. The immediate concept that comes to mind is community. Another aspect of this viewpoint that was brought to my attention is being a part of a belief system that supports a life of thriving and generosity. In other words, we must establish meaningful connections with the people we choose to surround ourselves with and help each other to live well. What I would like to emphasize here is that this is a responsibility in the deepest sense of the word. When we decide to form a connection with people and broaden our communities, we are essentially agreeing to compromise on something or to give something up because the forming of that bond is greater than the part of you that is individualistic in nature. Synonymous with meaning is consequential.

That is not to say that we are now bound completely by the dictates of another but that when you make the choice to be in community where connection is forged the consequence of that relationship is an upholding of responsibility. Every decision you make suffers its own burdens even if you decide to isolate yourself so completely that the illusion of independence becomes your reality. Coincidentally, more and more people are feeling isolated and alone in our society and therefore lack any sense of meaning or purpose and in turn, become the baggage no one is inclined to carry. There is hope though because we can learn to form new connections and become a contributing part of a system that promotes prosperity and generosity. You just have to be courageous enough to decide.
