Educator stress and wellbeing is increasing as top-down departmental demands and administrative tasks build up never mind the day-to-day facilitation of classes that in some cases exceed 50 plus learners who all exclusively demand the teacher’s attention simultaneously. In general, the experience and challenge of a lack of discipline curtails any hopes of achieving the learning objectives in time. However, this is the expected and accepted norm in most school settings, and completely dehumanises the teacher’s experience. CPD courses are available and are recursive resources underpinned by the broader curriculum which teachers are bound to know. Is it any wonder that teachers are fed up, exhausted and reconsidering their choice of occupation?

I care deeply about the wellbeing of my fellow educators and have subsequently made it my mission to learn as much as I can to know more about how to facilitate the improvement of life satisfaction among educators.

Thus, I completed my Med and wrote a dissertation on teacher wellbeing, or lack thereof in this country, and globally. I further developed my practical skills with a course on neuromodulation coaching which helps me to help my fellow educators to access their internal neurological, psychological and physiological environments with the aim of improving work application, personal and interpersonal, as well as recreation. The work application includes aspects of leadership and entrepreneurship while the personal and interpersonal focuses on relationships. This coaching relationship is a support mechanism for educators who experience a lack of gratification in any of these areas of life and aims to increase the wellness and performance levels of educators.

The coaching interventions are based upon the context provided by a diagnostic which incorporates each of the work application, personal/interpersonal and recreation areas and will empower educators to live more satisfying lives. This is a process and, depending on the results of the diagnostic, will require the educator to want the fulfilling outcomes of necessary transformation.
